Have you recently hired a new member to join your dream team?

Great! That is wonderful news; however, it can feel a little bit daunting to you if you’re learning how to be a leader to your new qualified team members. Right?

If that’s the case, don’t sweat it!

In this article, I’m going to share with you five ways to effectively communicate with members of your team no matter if they’re newbies or seasoned team members.

Leadership

As a business owner with a dream team, you now must fully embrace the role of a leader. The success of the team working together falls on your shoulders. Effective and open communication is a must. Speak clearly, be confident and direct, ask open-ended questions as needed, as well as walk your walk and talk your talk. Set the example for your team to follow no matter what role they play as a member of your team.

Meetings

The first meeting with a new team member should be an onboarding meeting where you take the time to learn more about them, set boundaries and expectations, and provide a general overview of their role in your business.

It’s also recommended that routine one-on-one meetings occur with each team member to discuss challenges, strengths, areas for improvement, growth opportunities, and more.

Establishing a meeting routine is important. Determine how often and when you would like to meet with your team to discuss goals, objectives, client projects, and more to keep the lines of communication open and to ensure everyone is on the same page.

Project Management

As a business owner, you have several responsibilities and important things to remember. To assist in effectively communicating with your team, consider using a project management tool like Asana or Trello. These tools allow you to assign projects, discuss tasks, monitor progress, and more.

Feedback

There’s nothing worse than working for or with someone who doesn’t value your opinion or feedback. As a leader, establish an “open door policy” to allow your team members to offer feedback or suggestions about the business, tasks, projects, systems or processes and more.

Also, establish the expectation that feedback is a two-way street. While they are welcome to come to you with any questions, concerns, suggestions, or ideas, then so can you. Feedback is important for both personal and professional growth. Be an exceptional leader and set the example for your team.

Appreciation

Channel your inner Aretha Franklin, and show your team a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Show and express your appreciation for their hard work, dedication, commitment, and talents that they bring to your business. There is no I in team; therefore, let them see, feel, and hear how much they are valued because your business wouldn’t be where it’s at today without their contribution. Interestingly, a simple, Thank You, can go a long way!

Lastly, clear, concise, and open communication is important for the success of your business when working closely with others to service your clients while scaling the business.

Remember, together you can achieve more!
